Further Chalice Background Information
Most people attach a lot of spiritual and emotional value to a chalice. This essentially stems from their belief in the importance of carrying out sacred rituals and rities that have been passed down generations, form their ancestors, many centuries ago. There are also many cultures that strongly hold on to this belief, such as the ancient Roman Catholics, Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, as well as Lutheranism and Anglicanism. The contents held by a chalice are varieties of wine, which are known to have sacramental value, and were used during the period of Eucharist or the period pertaining to that of the Holy Communion and Lord’s Supper. This particular goblet has also been known to be a symbol, representing familial ties and traditions.
In the initial era, there were also some special uses of a chalice, such as those of drinking off one, and remembering the Lord. The basic design and make of each sacred goblet is also more or less the same, with a bowl, affixed on the top of a stand. The bowl is also decorated with beautiful ornamental carvings and design, with some even being adorned with jewels and precious gems. The vessels, being used in acts of worship, held immense sacramental value; and have continued to do so even in the present age. Thus, each goblet is beautified with precious metals and gems, and is treated with respect. The day of use of these vessels, dates back to the era of the ‘early church’.
